What to Expect on Your Whale Watching Tour

A Magdalena Bay Gray Whale watching expedition is a bucket list trip for any whale watcher. The calm lagoon is full of marine life including the California Gray Whales that attract travelers from all over the world. For thousands of years, Magdalena Bay whales have migrated here to give birth to their calves and nourish them until they are strong enough to make their journey back to the cold waters of Alaska. During this time, Magdalena Bay whale watching can be exceptional.

Our destination, is one of the few places in the world where you can have an intimate Magdalena Bay whale watching experience. Over the years, the Magdalena Bay whales have become accustomed to humans, making them extra-curious about our boats. In 1940, California Gray Whales were listed as an endangered species. Since then, the Magdalena Bay Whale population has reestablished itself and provides a unique opportunity to experience some of the best whale watching.

Our Magdalena Bay whale watching schedule provides the best possible Gray Whale watching opportunities featuring:

  • Numerous friendly California Gray Whales

  • Few boats in the lagoons

  • Perfect light conditions for photographers

  • Calm waters

All our Magdalena tours are led by marine biologists or naturalists. During our journey, they will share information about the local area, Gray Whales, other marine life, and more.

On this 2-day Magdalena Bay whale watching expedition, expect to be on the water for 5 to 6 hours, divided into two separate tours. Your first Gray Whale watching tour in the afternoon after arrival and the next in the morning after breakfast.

Beyond the amazing Gray Whale watching opportunities, we will have the chance to walk on the dunes and see a vast amount of wildlife including hundreds of migrating birds, dolphins, and more.

This trip will familiarize you with the rich Mexican culture and food of Baja California. You will get to know the friendly  local people while we enjoy a world-class lobster dinner. Your options for lunch on arrival are fish, meat, or chicken tacos. For breakfast, you can choose how you’d like your eggs done.

So great we did it a second time. First day we saw a ton of whale breaching and heard them singing underwater. Second day we have 4-5 dolphins and 2 whales following and swimming along with the boat for about 90 minutes. Tour was about over timewise so they stopped the boat with the plans to listen to the whales again. The Whales actually stopped with the boat and started circling it. Amazing. Went in early Jan. Second day was a little rough on the water, take some Dramamine if you are prone to sea sickness. Highly recommend them!

What a great trip. We saw dozens of whales jumping and breaching the water. The guid was knowledgeable and you can tell she loved the whales and loved talking about them. The boat driver was also great even in some tight spots and bigger waves. I will do this again with this company.
